| Body
& Soul Fundraiser
Millenium Issue |
Many
thanks to all of you who attended The Studio's premiere event, at
the Coolidge Corner Theatre. "Homicide," Women in Television,
was a wonderful evening and a successful fundraiser for the Coolidge
and The Home for Little Wanderers. We also thank Chobee Hoy
for hosting the reception.
So it is with great excitement that we return to the Coolidge on Thursday,
October 7, at 7 PM to present "Body and Soul," The Politics
of Fashion, a benefit for Rosie's Place.
Rosie's Place opened the first women's shelter twenty five years
ago with a clear mission; to help women maintain dignity, seek opportunity
and find security in their lives. They have had a remarkable record
of achievement, but there is still much to be done. We are delighted
to support Kip Tiernan and all the women of Rosie's Place.
Many thanks to Citizens Bank for co-sponsoring this event,
and for their enthusiastic support.
BODY AND SOUL, The Politics of Fashion is provocative, philosophical,
political, fashionable... and entertaining! It will raise questions
about our bodies, our self-image, and the obsession with thinness.
These are issues women deal with every day - the myth and the reality.
And who better to explore these issues, than our own Paula Lyons,
WBZ's Consumer Reporter, Studio customer and friend. And
now for the details: We will begin with a screening of Liane Brandon's,
classic film, "Betty Tells her Story," which has been
nominated for inclusion in the National Film Registry. Betty
tells a simple story about buying a party dress; but it's not so simple.
Following the film, Jean Kilbourne, noted media critic and
visiting scholar at Wellesley College will present Slim
Hopes, an exploration of Advertising and the Obsession with thinness.
This should stimulate a lively discussion with Jean, Lianne, and
Paula.
The Grand Finale: an unconventional Fashion Show featuring
Real Clothes for Real Women highlights of The Studio's outstanding
Fall Collection.
The tickets are $25.00. For more information call The Studio
at 617-738-5091. If you are unable to attend but wish to make a donation,
please mail your check payable to Rosie's Place, c/o The Studio,
233 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA 02446.
We hope to see you! |

perfect MATCH |
"Will
they match?" Answer: no, they don't match. They tone. It's not about
finding two pieces in the exact same shade, it's about putting together
a harmony of shade and tones that work together. Different textures
and fabrics take to color differently, so it's extremely rare to find
a sweater that exactly 'matches' a jacket in the restrictive sense
that the customer meant".
